About OpenSpecs.video
Our Mission
OpenSpecs.video is an open source initiative to create a comprehensive, accurate, and freely accessible database of camera specifications. We believe that filmmakers, content creators, and camera enthusiasts deserve easy access to detailed technical information to make informed decisions about their equipment.
Why OpenSpecs?
Camera specifications are often scattered across manufacturer websites, buried in PDFs, or locked behind paywalls. This fragmentation makes it difficult to compare cameras or find specific technical details.
OpenSpecs.video solves this by providing:
- Standardized data format using the CineMath Camera Schema
- Version-controlled specifications with transparent change history
- Community-driven verification and updates
- Free API access for developers and researchers
- Comprehensive search and comparison tools
The Schema
We use the CineMath Camera Schema v2.7, which provides a comprehensive structure for capturing all aspects of camera specifications including:
Core Specifications
- • Sensor details and resolution
- • Recording formats and codecs
- • Frame rates and data rates
- • Color science and spaces
Extended Features
- • Power systems and consumption
- • Connectivity and I/O
- • Environmental specifications
- • Audio capabilities
How It Works
